Time Trials Wrap-Up

It was wall-to-wall sport stacking on Sunday, March 18th as Tokyo Tower was the scene for this year's first premier sport stacking event in Japan. Over 120 stackers, ranging in age from 3 to 69, participated in the 2007 WSSA Japan Time Trials.

Japanese stackers from as far as Nagoya, Aichi-ken, Osaka and even Kyushu traveled to Tokyo to enter this World Sport Stacking Association (WSSA) sanctioned event. International participants from 15 countries represented many of the international schools in Tokyo and everyone had a great time stacking against the clock. The top stackers in each division took home trophies and medals as proof of their stacking excellence. (See results here)

Top Stackers
Tsuyoshi Seo, an 18-year-old from Kawasaki took home the top spot of Individual Overall Winner with a combined time of 15.06 in the 3-3-3, 3-6-3 and Cycle stacks. He out-stacked the competition to win a trip to the U.S. to compete in the 2007 WSSA World Sport Stacking Championships to be held April 14-15 in Denver, Colorado.

Under the scrutiny of  the judges and with cameras strategically positioned, stackers in all divisions attempted to set not only their own personal records, but to break new National and World Records in this exciting sport.

Bringing home the championship trophy in this year's Overall 3-3-3 stack was 13-year-old Harry O'Sullivan. His time of 2.52 seconds in the 3-3-3 edged out Tsuyoshi Seo, who took second place (2.55 seconds) and Yuta Mizutani, sixteen, whose time of 2.77 seconds put him in third place. Tsuyoshi battled back in the 3-6-3 stack and secured a first place with 2.93 seconds. Stacking against Tsuyoshi was younger sister, Akari Seo, who stacked her way into second spot with a time of 3.36 seconds. Rounding out 3rd place was 14-year-old Katsura Tamamushi who clocked in at 3.44 seconds.

With the fastest Cycle stack of the day, 16-year-old Akari Seo won the Gold Trophy this round with 9.06 seconds, followed by Tsuyoshi Seo (9.58) and third place going to 8-year-old Kenji Takahashi with a blazing time of 9.71 seconds! Great stacking everyone!

A new sport stacking event for a tournament here in Japan was the Doubles Competition. A favorite among the stackers, as well as the spectators, was the Parent/Child divisions.

New Records Set
Many new Japanese National Records were set throughout the day.* In addition, three new World Records in sport stacking were acheived during the tournament. Four-year-old Salik Akhtar broke the world record in the 4 and under age division with a time of 19.34 in the Cycle stack. Kaichi Kondo's 3.03 in the 3-3-3 stack brought him a new 6-year-old age division world record and, Tsuyoshi and Akari Seo's Doubles time of 10.16 seconds put their names in the world record books for 18 and under Doubles competition. Congratulations everyone! (Special congratulations to 6-year-old Rawaan Akhtar whose 4.00 seconds in the 3-6-3 almost earned him a new record.)

Special Thanks!
Our sincere thanks to all the volunteers and judges who made this tournament possible! Also, a very special thanks to all those family and friends came to support their stackers! Thank you very much for encouraging your stackers on this fun and exciting day!

Congratulations to ALL who competed and start practicing now for the 2007 Japan Sport Stacking Championships later in the year. (Details to follow in this site.)

*Note: All Japan National Records are pending review and approval by the World Sport Stacking Association. (Results coming soon.)
